Treatment of inpatient hyperglycemia beginning in the emergency department: A randomized trial using insulins aspart and detemir compared with usual care

Patients in the intervention group presenting to the emergency department with a history of type 2 diabetes and blood glucose of ≥ 200 mg/dL received insulin aspart every 2 hours and, if admitted to the emergency department, began daily insulin detemir in the intervention group. Those given usual care were treated as per hospital physicians.

Four week study of the effect of near-normalisation of blood glucose on the insulin response to glucagon-like peptide-1 and glucose-dependent insulintropic polypeptide in patients with type 2 diabetes

The incretin effect is attenuated in patients with type 2 diabetes, partly as a result of impaired beta cell responsiveness to glucose-dependent insulinotropic polypeptide (GIP) and glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). This study investigated whether 4 weeks of near-normalisation of blood glucose level could improve insulin responses to GIP and GLP-1 in patients with type 2 diabetes.
